Tea Saucer (Copper with Tin Finish)
Copper underneath, tin on top — and years of use written into the surface.
This tea saucer is made by Shinko Kinzoku in Tsubame, Niigata — the same metalworking atelier behind AZMAYA's copper kettle. The base is copper, and the outer surface is finished with tin plating. Tin catches light without the brashness of polished metal — the surface reads almost matte, reserved in a way that suits a tea table. Over time, the surface picks up fine scratches and the color deepens — not damage, but the record of use. It pairs naturally with AZMAYA's Bunsho yunomi — white Hasami porcelain on this saucer is a combination worth seeing in person. Learn more about materials at About Materials of Tea Ware.

AZMAYA is a Tokyo-based design brand that partners with specialist craft studios across Japan, bringing each maker's expertise to bear on objects designed for daily use. This cup and saucer set is made by Shinko Kinzoku in the Tsubame-Sanjo district of Niigata Prefecture, where metalworking traditions stretch back more than three hundred years.
The copper body is tin-coated on the interior — a technique long used in Japanese metalwork to create a food-safe, flavor-neutral surface while preserving the thermal properties and warm presence of the outer copper. Shinko Kinzoku's craftspeople form and finish each piece by hand, maintaining precision through process rather than automation.
